Examples for why relationships in The Great Gatsby Fail?

I'm looking for some good examples of how the characters' selfishness, carelessness, and inability to remain faithful destroy the characters' relationships with others. I have thought of one so far, that instead of using his money to help his poor father, Gatsby spends his money on parties and material possessions. Any other ideas? the more the better THANKS
