What is a 2 step procedure to synthesize nicotine from nicotonic acid?
We are attempting to synthesize nicotine from another reactant such as nicotonic acid for a project in Organic Chemistry Lab. It is a pretty open lab so we can use whatever reactants we we want; we just have to end up with the desired product (nicotine), and it must be a two-step procedure. i.e. we must start with something like nicotonic acid, convert it to something else, and then convert that product to nicotine. If anybody has any knowledge of something like this (or even another synthesis idea) we would greatly appreciate it. We can't access most of the good scientific articles online without paying, so we must resort to this. (also this isn't cheating because it's just part of our preliminary research). Thanks!!
